The Vieux Logis is probably one of the oldest hotel/restaurants in the Dordogne. The decor is typically Pèrigordine filled with many family antiques and the gardens are stunning. Nestled in the sleepy village of Trémolat, Le Vieux Logis has been in the Giraudel-Destord family for 400 years. The Cave of Lascaux is famous for its prehistoric paintings showing various animals, hunts, and wars. They were discovered by four local boys on Thursday 12-SEP-1940. This is the official date of discovery and generally agreed on. But the story behind is told in many different versions. Le Parc is an excellent Pizza restaurant just outside of Le Bugue. They also do a full range of pasta dishes, steak and the usual Perigordine fare, which can be eaten next to the lake with it’s Herons and wildlife.

 Le Bistro d'en Face sits in a beautiful building opposite (en face) the Vieux Logis in Trémolat and is owned by the same family.
There are three menus all offering the known delights of the Pèrigord. Including: Pieds de Porc (Pigs Trotter), Andouillettes de Troyes (Tripe Sausage!), The Veritable Fois Gras (Duck Liver Pâté) accompanied by chips cooked in duck fat!!

Their lunch time menus from Monday to Friday are just €12 euros.
The Bistro like many good restaurants locally gets very busy in July and August, so you are advised to book in advance. We would be pleased to do this for you if you wish.

This large prehistoric settlement complex is found about 9 km north of Les Eyzies, on the south bank of the Vezere River, in a very scenic and attractive location. La Roque St Christophe is the largest such settlement in Europe.

There is an extensive series of caves that have been carved out of the soft limestone cliff, initially by the action of the river. The cliff is almost a kilometre in length and 80 metres high.

The cave was discovered in 1907 by a man digging a well. By 1924 you could enter the cave by being lowered down with a barrel. In 1956 an artificial tunnel was dug that enters the main chamber. As well as numerous concretions and triangular shaped crystal, there are countless speleothems adorning the walls of the immense vault. Four petrified fountains covered with flowing water are supplemented by very latest technology, laser sound music in conjuction with scenic lighting.

The Cave of Rouffignac is know for a very long time. Of course it is known for ten thousands of years, as it contains famous prehistoric art. But historic exploration also started very early in 1575. A not so nice superlative is the fact, that Rouffignac had one of the first known cave accidents.

In 1730 two visitors from the Netherlands got lost in the cave. After some time in the cave they couldn't find the way back. When their light went out they started to burn their clothes, but still they didn't find the exit. One died in the cave, the other one found the exit after nine days and died two days later on exhaustion.
